#1 Never exercise on an empty stomach. Have something small at least 2 hours before hand but not closer than 30 minutes before training
#2 If you want to do resistance training and cardio training in the same workout do the cardio work last. Do a quick warm up with say a light jog for about 5 mins but nothing more as you need all the energy you can get for a good weights session and doing cardio before hand will burn up a lot of this essential energy
#3 Always remain hydrated when exercising. Dehydration can lead to muscle cramps, decreased blood pressure, dizziness and even fainting.
#4 Don’t try to sweat the weight off. Sweating is a temporary weight loss method. Yes, you will lose some weight in sweat, but as soon as you drink water you’re just putting it back on. So get rid of that jumper and track pants!!! The cooler you are the more energy you’ll burn as you shiver. Shivering is little contractions of the muscles which in turn means more energy being burnt
#5 Stretch after your workout. Stretch the main body parts that you concentrated on in your workout. Stretch each body part for a good 30-40 seconds minimum.
#6 After a strength and muscle building workout some people like to consume protein drinks or bars as a way to help the muscles rebuild from the trauma of the workout. Preferably you want to eat or drink about 30 mins BEFORE your workout so that the body has a good supply of protein running around as soon as you start the workout instead of after you've finished it.
#7 Lean muscle helps keep the fat off. The more lean muscle you have, the more energy your body has the potential of burning. So if you love cardio and have never done weights because you don’t want to “bulk up” then think again! By using techniques such as circuit training you can do strength exercises like push ups and squats but in a way that will increase the heart rate and burn calories while gaining the strength and lean muscle benefits as well.
